This book is divided into 4 chapters (it was great when it all began, superheroes, I didn't make him for you and music/lyrics) Although a bit dated, it is still a must for fans of the stage show and movie. The photos and b/w pictures are great and there are also cast biographies and descriptions of the characters.

This book is good for someone looking for basic information about "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", but most if not all the information on the "Rocky Horror Experience is severely out of date. Henkin provides adequate 1980 dated RHPS cult narrative history with nominal illustrations and some inaccuracies. However, if you want a general overview from that era of this movie, this is your book. Worth the read. At the time this book was cutting edge.

“I could snap whatever caught my eye, stirred my imagination”, states Mick Rock about the time he spent with the “Rocky Horror Picture Show”. As the “special photographer” on the set he was right in the middle of the action.
This book contains 272 pages of the most beautiful pictures – most of them never published before – from the entire film production, featuring images from the set as well as backstage photos of the actors and the director.
|
Mick Rock’s fabulous pictures show Tim Curry aka Frank N. Furter jumping into the swimming pool during a shooting break, Richard O’Brien being transformed into Riff Raff, and how the illustrious society celebrates the creation of “Rocky” the love monster. These and many other pictures by Mick Rock have been compiled for the first time in this magnificent tome, complemented by the photographer’s reminiscences of this time, and ennobled by Richard O’Brien’s foreword.
This high quality photo book is a unique film document as well as a splendid collector’s item for everyone who is crazy about the story of mad scientist Frank N.Furter. The original play opened in 1973 on the experimental stage “Theatre Upstairs” at the Royal Court Theatre in London, and the same year it was elected “Best Musical of 1973″. In 1974, the shooting of the film began with most of the actors from the original cast, along with other great young actors such as Susan Sarandon and Tim Curry. The film premiered in 1975. And now – finally, thirty years later – this large-format illustrated book with its luxurious, stylish design – perfectly fitting to the film – has been released.

Within just a few years, The Rocky Horror Picture Show grew from an oddball musical to a celebrated cinematic experience of midnight features and outrageous audience participation. This study tells the extraordinary story of the film from initial reception to eventual cult status. Uncovering the film's non-conformist sexual politics and glam-rock attitude, this volume explores its emphasis on the theatrical body (tattooed, cross-gendered, flamboyant), and its defiant queering of cinema history

(Limelight). The Rocky Horror Picture Show is simultaneously one of the iconographic touchstones of 1970s cinema, and a timeless romp that appeals equally to every fresh generation. Created with a sharp eye for cult and context alike, Rocky Horror leaped effortlessly from stage to celluloid, losing none of its immediacy and spontaneity in the process and maybe gathering more. Dave Thompson goes deep inside the phenomenon to trace the story and the strangeness that is The Rocky Horror Picture Show. |

"The Rocky Horror Picture Show FAQ is the in-depth story of not only the legendary stage show and movie but of a unique period in theatrical history in the movie's UK homeland as well as overseas. Rocky Horror has been performed worldwide for more than 40 years in over 30 countries and has been translated into more than 20 languages. Inside these pages, we see Rocky Horror as sexual cabaret and political subversion, as modern mega-hit and Broadway disaster. At the movie house, we learn when to shout, what to throw and why people even do those things. Here is the full story of the play's original creation; its forebears and its influences are laid out in loving detail, together with both the triumphs and tragedies that attended it across the next 40 forty years. |
